Should I Fix My Old Computer or Buy a New Computer?
Should I fix my old computer or buy a new computer? This is a question that everyone faces sometime in their life. You have had your computer for 5 year now. You feel that your 5 year old computer is outdated, slow, and just plain old frustrating. You then take your computer to your local repair shop just to hear that the total repair cost is the same as buying that brand spanking new computer at a major electronics store. So what should you do? Buy the new computer right? Not so fast. Let me explain why.
What you don't realize, is that the physical computer parts are not the value of the computer. So now you must be wondering what is. The answer to that question is the software. Let me help you understand a little more.
Real conversation with one of my customers:
Me: Ok Mam we have completed the diagnostic on your computer. We have determined that the motherboard is defective and needs to be replaced.
Customer: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much will it cost to fix?
Me: Parts and labor you are looking at $175.
Customer: $175 dollars, I saw a new computer at a local electronics store for $265.
Me: It will be a better deal for you to have your computer repaired.
Customer: How is that?
What this customer fail to realize is the new computer doesn't have any of the software she needs. On her old computer she has Microsoft Office Pro, Photoshop CS5, and she can't find the installation disk for these programs. So lets do a little math. Microsoft Office 2010 is $300, and Photoshop CS5 is $600. So the customer would have to add $900 to the total cost of the computer. You can't transfer prog of rams from one computer to the other unless its the same exact model, so that will be out of the question. The customer would also have to transfer all of her data from the old computer to the new. Data consist of files you save on your computer(word documents, excel documents, pictures, music, and videos). Programs are the applications that you use to prepare and open your data(Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Photo shop, and etc).
To conclude,
Buying a new computer is not always the best option. First you should evaluate the software on your old computer, and make sure that buying new is a better option than the present. Technology changes rapidly, as long as your old computer works for you, and is fast enough for your needs, you should stick with it. If you upgrade when technology upgrades, you will be purchasing a new computer every 6 months.

What is the safest website to download free music?
What is the safest website to download free music?
Remember the days of waiting for your local music store to release the album of your favorite artist? You had been listening to your favorite song for weeks now, and it maintained the #1 spot on your local radio station for some time. Finally, Tuesday arrived and you purchased the album and noticed that the only respectable song on the entire album is the one that you had been singing for weeks. This is a major reason for the shift in the music industry.
Consumers are tired of purchasing an entire album for $17.00, just to listen to 1 great song and 12 mediocre songs. So here comes Napster in 1999 and LimeWire in 2000. These two programs changed the music industry forever. Now, you could download your favorite songs for free. Several music lovers said goodbye to purchasing crappy albums. However, with free music comes the risk of free viruses. This is where my research comes into play. I have researched the net, and I have determined what I feel is the safest way to download free music. Please be advised, anytime you download music via p2p network you are at risk.
Results
To determine the safest site to download free music we must first understand how these sites work (LimeWire, FrostWire, I mesh, etc.). All of the free music download sites are based on a p2p network. Ok so now you are asking yourself, what is a p2p network? P2p network stand for peer to peer network. Basically, this means that someone just like you in the world is uploading their music on this site so other users can download it. So if the music file they are uploading is infected with a virus, that virus is downloaded to the free music website to you, the downloader. So it’s a good chance that the person that is uploading the file has no idea that the file is infected, and you won’t know it’s infected until you download the file. There are also very bad people out there that upload these infected files deliberately. So how can you download free music affectively?
Solution
Ok, now that you know that safe, free p2p music download sites do not exist, what precautions can you take to make your free music search friendlier?
1. When you download any file that may be suspicious, never click the run or open button. If you run or open an infected file, you will be infected. What you should do is click “save”, run your anti-virus scan and hope that it finds any viruses that may exist in the saved file. If the virus scan comes back with 0, enjoy your music.
2. When downloading a music file, never download wacky titles. For example, if you want to download Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, you should download exactly that, “Thriller”. Do not download Thriller 1.2 or Thriller 1 because these files could definitely be a virus.
3. An average mp3 song file size is about 6mb, this is about a 4.5 minute song. So if you see any songs way off the 6mb size, stay away from it.
My pick
I am not a big music downloader, but if I were, I would use I mesh. Not because it’s safer, but because I like how user friendly it is.

WHY IS MY COMPUTER SO SLOW?
Is this you every time you start up your computer? Does it take you computer way too long to start? Well on average a computer using windows OS should only take about 1-2 minutes. Anything after that and you have problems.
What are the main reasons for this problem?
Programs in Start up:
Usually when I see this problem, I immediately check the start up. This is the problem 80% of the time. What happens is every time you download a new program, there is always a very tiny box in the corner that says "run at start up". This box is automatically checked, so if you don't uncheck it this program will start running as soon as you turn on your computer. Well why would it start if I am not using it? Good question, it does this because every time you turn on your computer this program wants to search for new updates, and it want to constantly remind you that it exist(Hey I am still here click me, use my services). So every time you download lime wire, games, google tool bar, yahoo bar, itunes, and any other program it will run at start up if you don't tell it not to. Lets put it like this. Imagine 20 people are talking to you at the same time. How long will it take you to determine what each person is saying? The answer is forever. That is how your computer feels when you ask it to communicate with all of these programs at once. So how do you fix this problem? Go to control panel, add remove programs and uninstall every program that you do not use. Make sure you only uninstall what you can recognize. You don't want to uninstall key programs.
Anti-Virus Protection:
I bet you are wondering, "how could an anti-virus harm my computer, it protects it?" Well its simple, when you have more than one anti-virus on your computer it slows it down and conflict with each other. This is an example of what happens." (Trend Micro)Thank you for installing Trend Micro I will start scanning now, (Norton) hold on this is my territory I am going to stop you right now. You are starting a fight. You only need one Anti-virus at a time. More than one does more harm than good. I will write an article in the future on what Anti- virus I recommend. So uninstall all of you virus protections except 1.
Viruses:
This could also be a problem. Scan your computer and see what it finds. If it doesn't find anything, that doesn't mean you don't have any. Just mean your anti-virus protection didn't find it. Also Virus is a universal term, there are many types. Go to http://http://houstonpcrepair.net/services/virus-removal to learn about the different types and what they do.
Hardware:
Hardware is a simple subject. Basically don't expect to go 200 miles per hr in a Dodge Neon. If you have out dated hardware you will not perform at optimal speed. For example, your computer was great when you purchased it. It was fast and did everything you wanted. However, it was designed to use what was already installed on it and maybe a little more. But, you added photo shop, lime wire, Cd burner software, 3 anti- viruses, and much more. Its time to upgrade your hardware to match the task you want to do.
Solution:
Ok we already uninstalled the useless programs and extra anti-viruses right(at least I hope so). Now we want to download CCleaner and clean up the thousands of temporary internet files you have on your computer. These are files that are automatically saved when you visit a website. Don't worry it is nothing you need, want, or probably don't even know about. After we delete those, we want to scan for viruses.
